Black Swallowtail butterflies have upperwings that are mostly black. Males have a yellow band near the edge of their wings. Females have a blue band on their hindwing.

Its wingspan is 3 to 4 inches.

Black Swallowtail butterflies live in fields, suburbs, marshes, deserts and roadsides.

They can be found in most of the Eastern United States.

Host Plants: Queen Anne's Lace, carrot, celery, dill

Nectar Plants: red clover, milkweed, thistles
